  • 19th February - ABC SPECIAL EDITION, brought to you by MediaCom Press Unit

With the latest batch of circulation figures available, we bring you a taste of what has been happening in the consumer magazine marketplace. People are buying more magazines.
MediaCom View: The new ABCs saw a 1% increase in the number of actively purchased magazines in the UK in 2006. With peaks and troughs across individual sectors, new launches and some closures. It's been another busy period for magazines.

    Fashion steals the show
MediaCom View: Grazia was the biggest story to come out of the weekly sector with the highest percentage growth, adding over 30,000 year on year to bring it's ABC to 207k. With IPCs launch of Look last month, what to wear is obviously what it's all about.

It's not only bright young things that are doing well. The luxury fashion titles were some of the few publications in the monthly market which saw year on year improvement. Having celebrated it's 90th birthday in 2006, Vogue's not showing signs of ageing.

    Slowly Slowly Catchy Monkey
MediaCom View: It would appear that not as many 'lads' of them are reading their monthly 'mags' at the moment, perhaps being lured by the other formats that brands such as FHM have developed, including FMH.com and the TV channel.

Monkey, the magazine from Dennis, posted its inaugural ABCe figures of, 209,612 average weekly readers, which was double the anticipated number, demonstrating that this format has been well received by young men in the UK.
